Michael
Porter, Executive Chairman
Dr Michael
Porter is the Executive Chairman and founder of Tasman Asia Pacific
and Tasman Institute. As an internationally acknowledged expert on
private sector participation in infrastructure, he has extensive
practical experience in designing and implementing institutional and
regulatory reform to encourage private sector skills, capital and
ownership structures to the roads, water, rail and power sectors.
Most recently, Michael has completed a World Bank funded project on
private sector participation in toll roads in Indonesia, and has
worked with private clients on the water and wastewater sectors in
Europe and Asia. Michael’s work in Asia spans Indonesia, the
Philippines, Thailand, China and Vietnam, with projects undertaken
for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Australian
government.
In Australia,
Michael has worked for a number of government entities and private
clients, having played a key role in the Victorian reforms of the
early 1990s.
Previously,
Michael founded the Centre of Policy Studies at Monash University,
which was the sole winner of an Australian Government Research
Centre of Excellence Award in economics. He has worked for the
International Monetary Fund, Department of Prime Minister and
Cabinet, the Reserve Bank of Australia and has been a Professor of
Economics at Universities including Monash, Yale and Stanford.
